Popular Dive Sites in Key Largo

Molasses Reef

One of the most visited reefs in the Upper Keys, Molasses Reef is known for clear water, boulder corals, and abundant marine life. Its classic spur-and-groove reef structure and numerous mooring balls make it ideal for both scuba diving and snorkeling.

French Reef

Located just north of Molasses Reef, French Reef features caves, arches, and coral formations suitable for novice and experienced divers alike. Popular highlights include Hourglass Cave and Christmas Tree Cave, known for unique swim-throughs and marine life.

Benwood Wreck

The Benwood is a historic freighter wreck that rests in relatively shallow water, making it accessible for many certified divers. Over time, the wreck has become a thriving artificial reef covered in coral and surrounded by schools of fish.

USS Spiegel Grove

One of the most famous wreck dives in the Florida Keys, the USS Spiegel Grove is a massive 510-foot ship resting offshore of Key Largo. This advanced dive site offers dramatic swim-throughs, towering structures, and excellent photo opportunities.

Grecian Rocks Reef

Grecian Rocks is a shallow reef system featuring Elkhorn coral and excellent visibility. Its depth range makes it ideal for beginner divers and snorkelers, with colorful reef life visible just below the surface.

Elbow Reef

Elbow Reef is a classic bank reef with a well-defined spur-and-groove system. Divers can explore coral ridges, marine life, and historic wreck remnants scattered throughout the area.

North Dry Rocks

This healthy reef system is known for a mix of boulder coral, soft corals, and vibrant fish populations. It is often less crowded and offers rewarding dives for those looking to explore a variety of reef habitats.

Pickles Reef

Pickles Reef is a shallow, expansive reef filled with pillar corals, ledges, and crevices that shelter juvenile fish, lobsters, and sea fans. Nearby wrecks make this area popular for extended dive days.

Snapper Ledge

A shallow reef averaging around 25 feet, Snapper Ledge is known for schools of yellowtail snapper, nurse sharks, and moray eels. It’s a favorite site for relaxed dives and snorkeling trips.

USCG Duane & Bibb Wrecks

These decommissioned Coast Guard cutters were intentionally sunk to create artificial reefs. The Duane and Bibb offer dramatic wreck dives with abundant marine growth and are best suited for experienced divers.
