Summary

We spent a Friday afternoon on a dive charter exploring the underwater world around Key Largo. The guided scuba trip took us to some of Florida Keys' best dive sites, combining colorful coral reefs and historic wrecks. With our guide leading the way and all gear provided, we focused entirely on the experience - three to four hours of discovery beneath the surface.

Scuba Diving with Pascal Van Craenenbroek - Rates & Booking

Our instructor with BlueWater Divers on Friday in May took us out on one of their twice-daily dive charters. Certified divers pay $100 per person (bring your certification card), and snorkelers are welcome at $95. The trips run between 3 and 4 hours depending on conditions and which dive sites you visit that day.

We could choose between two beautiful reefs, a combination wreck-and-reef dive, or two wrecks - whatever matched our certification levels and what the conditions allowed. The group was kept small, with a maximum of 6 people per boat, so everyone got personal attention from the guide who knows these waters inside and out.

The booking process was straightforward: reserve with a 25% deposit and pay the remainder once your dives are complete. Gear rental and additional equipment options are available when you select your date. If you want something more exclusive, they also offer private charters.

Highlights of the Key Largo Dive Charter

What stood out most was how well-organized everything felt before we even entered the water. The boat was set up with plenty of deck space for gear, and the crew handled all the logistics. Tanks and weights were provided, along with snacks and fresh water throughout the trip. We appreciated the dock-side rinse tank and the camera rinse station onboard - details that made a real difference for our gear afterward.

The dive sites themselves felt different each time we descended. Swimming through coral gardens with visibility in clear water, then transitioning to exploring a shipwreck, reminded us why Key Largo is a destination for this activity. Our guide positioned us well for each dive, managing the group's pace and pointing out features we might have missed on our own.

Dive Experience in Key Largo Waters

The underwater environment around Key Largo offers a mix of coral reef ecosystems and artificial reef structures created by wrecks. The coral formations support colorful marine life, and the reefs themselves create an otherworldly backdrop for diving. The water conditions vary - sometimes you get excellent visibility, and other times the conditions shape which sites the guide chooses for the day.

The wreck dives add a different dimension to the experience. Swimming through the structure of a ship on the seafloor, watching how marine life has colonized the metal surfaces, and exploring the artifacts tells a different story than the natural reef. Both experiences are compelling in their own way, and having options means you're not limited to just one type of dive.

What makes this location special is the accessibility combined with variety. You don't have to travel far from the dive shop, yet you get genuine coral ecosystems and historical wrecks within the same trip. The guide's local expertise ensures you're visiting sites that match your experience level and current conditions, rather than forcing a predetermined itinerary.

Plan Your Dive Day

The boat accommodates 1 to 6 divers comfortably, so you could go solo or bring a small group. The experience works well for couples wanting a guided adventure or small groups of friends with similar certification levels. Your guide will coordinate with you beforehand about what you're hoping to see and what your qualifications allow.

BlueWater Divers provides everything except your personal diving skills and certification - tanks, weights, snacks, water, and rinse stations are all included. Free parking and on-site restrooms and showers mean you can leave your car without worry and clean up afterward. The twice-daily schedule gives you flexibility depending on your plans for the rest of the day.
