Highlights of Your Key Largo Dive Charter

Key Largo sits right in the heart of the Florida Keys, home to some of the most colorful and diverse underwater landscapes in North America. You'll explore living coral gardens teeming with tropical fish, or descend into historic shipwrecks that have become thriving artificial reefs. The water clarity here is exceptional, especially on calm days, giving you brilliant visibility to spot everything from delicate sea fans to curious sea turtles gliding through the blue.

The real magic happens when wildlife crosses your path. Green sea turtles are frequent visitors to these reefs, and encountering one in their natural habitat is something you'll never forget. Your guide knows where these gentle giants like to hang out and will keep your group at a respectful distance so everyone can observe without stress.

Local Species Insights: Green Sea Turtles

Green sea turtles are one of the largest hard-shelled sea turtles in the world, named for the greenish color of their fat and shell (not their outer appearance). These ancient mariners can live over 50 years in the wild and migrate thousands of miles between feeding grounds and nesting beaches. In the Key Largo area, you'll typically encounter adults weighing between 200 and 350 pounds.

Unlike their cousins the loggerheads, green sea turtles are primarily herbivorous as adults, spending much of their time grazing on seagrass beds in shallow waters. You might see one cruising slowly along the reef edge or resting in a coral crevice. They're generally calm and curious about divers, though they'll keep their distance if they sense you're getting too close. Your guide will position the group for optimal viewing while respecting the turtle's space.

These turtles rely on the coral reef ecosystem for shelter and feeding grounds. The vibrant reefs off Key Largo provide critical habitat for green sea turtles and thousands of other marine species. Diving here gives you a front-row seat to this interconnected underwater world and why protecting these environments matters so much.

Water temperatures in Key Largo stay warm year-round, ranging from the mid-70s in winter to the low 80s in summer. Visibility typically runs 30-60 feet depending on conditions, though it can be clearer or hazier depending on recent weather. Your guide will brief you on current conditions and what to expect before you get in the water.

Plan Your Dive Day

Trips depart twice daily, so you can choose a morning or afternoon slot that fits your schedule. The full experience runs 3 to 4 hours from boarding to returning to dock. Most of that time is in the water with one or two dive sites, but you'll also spend time traveling to the reefs or wrecks and gearing up and down.

The boat is set up for comfort, with plenty of deck space to organize your gear, relax between dives, and enjoy snacks and fresh water. Restrooms and showers are on-site, so you can rinse off and change into dry clothes before heading into town. Free parking means you don't have to worry about finding a spot or paying extra fees.

Bring your certification card if you're diving, a towel, sunscreen, and any personal items you want to keep dry in a bag. Your guide and the crew will handle all the technical stuff - you just show up ready to explore.
