Key Largo Private Reef & Wreck Diving Adventure

Nothing beats having the boat all to yourself when you're diving Key Largo's top-rated underwater sites. This private 3-tank charter gives you and your crew the freedom to explore both vibrant coral reefs and historic shipwrecks at your own pace. With a maximum of 6 divers, you'll get personalized attention from our PADI-certified dive masters who know these waters like the back of their hand. We pick dive sites based on current conditions, wind direction, and visibility to make sure you're getting the best possible diving experience every single time.

Beneath the Surface

Key Largo sits right at the heart of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, which means you're diving some of the most protected and pristine coral reef systems in North America. Our captains have been running these waters for decades, and they'll take you to spots that showcase the incredible diversity of this underwater landscape. One tank might have you drifting along Molasses Reef, watching angelfish weave through staghorn coral formations, while the next puts you inside the haunting corridors of the USS Spiegel Grove - a 510-foot Navy ship that's now home to massive grouper and schools of jacks. The third dive is where we really customize things based on what the group wants to see. Maybe it's the Christ of the Abyss statue at Key Largo Dry Rocks, or perhaps a night dive if you're feeling adventurous. Water temps hover around 78-82°F year-round, so a 3mm wetsuit is usually perfect. Visibility ranges from 40-80 feet depending on weather patterns and tidal movements.

Dive Brief & Gear Info

We've got all your heavy gear covered - tanks, weights, and weight belts are included in your charter price. Our Nitrox-certified divers can upgrade to enriched air for longer bottom times and shorter surface intervals between dives. You'll need to bring your mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, BCD, and regulator, though we do offer rental packages if you're traveling light. Every dive starts with a thorough briefing covering entry and exit procedures, maximum depth, dive time, and specific features to look for at each site. Our dive masters carry safety equipment including oxygen, first aid supplies, and surface marker buoys. We maintain radio contact with the Coast Guard and have GPS tracking on all dive sites. The boat features fresh water rinse stations, camera rinse tanks, and plenty of storage space for your gear between dives. Surface intervals are spent cruising to the next site while enjoying complimentary snacks and cold water.

Marine Life You'll See

The coral reefs around Key Largo are buzzing with marine life that'll keep your underwater camera working overtime. Green moray eels are year-round residents here, often spotted tucked into coral crevices with just their heads poking out. These impressive predators can reach 8 feet in length and are surprisingly docile around divers - just don't stick your fingers into any dark holes. They're most active during dawn and dusk feeding periods, but you'll encounter them throughout the day resting in their favorite hideouts.

Caribbean reef sharks patrol these waters regularly, especially around the deeper wreck sites. These sleek hunters typically measure 4-6 feet and are completely harmless to divers. They're curious but cautious, often circling at a distance before moving on. Spring and summer months bring the highest shark activity as water temperatures rise and baitfish become more abundant. Spotting one gliding over a wreck is always a highlight that gets divers talking for years.

Goliath grouper are the gentle giants of Key Largo's wrecks, with some specimens weighing over 400 pounds. These massive fish gather around artificial reefs and shipwrecks during their spawning season from July through September. They're incredibly docile despite their intimidating size, often allowing divers to get within arm's reach for photos. Their deep, rumbling calls can actually be felt through your wetsuit when they're communicating with other grouper in the area.

Sea turtles are frequent companions on these dives, with loggerheads, hawksbills, and green turtles all calling these reefs home. Loggerheads are the most commonly encountered, especially around sandy areas where they hunt for crabs and conchs. Green turtles prefer the seagrass beds adjacent to the reefs, while hawksbills stick close to the coral formations where they feed on sponges. Turtle activity peaks during warmer months, but these long-lived reptiles can be spotted year-round throughout the sanctuary.
